Year 8 pupil Theo has been announced as one of the runner ups in the 'Best Community Contributor' category in the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) See Differently Awards 2020.
During lockdown earlier this year Theo along with friends created The Tactile Times, a free braille newspaper, to help visually impaired young people through the isolation that many experienced during lockdown. The paper, available in print and online, helps visually impaired young people to learn new things, stay connected and enables them to write articles for the paper themselves.
As well as the newspaper, Theo also set up a website and Whatsapp group which he used to send out weekly events to their subscribers. Theo spent a considerable amount of time over the Easter break working on the project, that including a special lockdown issue of the paper, and is pleased that the award has encouraged more subscribers to join and will hopefully bring more braillists to write for the paper.
Congratulations to Theo for the tremendous effort he has put into making The Tactile Times.
