Year 12 visit the Tate Modern and Whitechapel Gallery exhibition

Published on 17/02/20

On 13 February the Visual Arts department took Sixth form students on an A-level and IB Visual Arts research trip to London Galleries.

Students visited the Tate Modern collections and Whitechapel Gallery exhibition entitled ‘Radical figures - Painting in the New Millennium’.

Students drew and photographed selected artworks and developed their understanding of the role of Curation in contemporary art, exploring both synchronic and diachronic approaches to Art History - terms borrowed from the study of linguistics.

The Radical Figures painting exhibition explores a new generation of artists who have been revitalising the expressive potential of figuration, charging vibrant canvases with social and political undertones and telling contemporary stories. Reviews of the exhibition can be found here:

Students will use ideas from the trip to develop work for their exam project which will be exhibited in the summer exhibition to be held at the Visual Arts Centre on 12 June.
