The Stephen Perse Classics department are celebrating an exciting new approach to KS3 Latin teaching as their new textbook is published by Bloomsbury Academic.
Bloomsbury Academic - the leading publisher for schools' Classics resources - has announced that it will publish a new KS3 Latin course; the course is set to be the most significant development in approaches to teaching Latin at KS3 in nearly 40 years.
The course - de Romanis - has been written by the Stephen Perse Classics department, in partnership with the award winning illustrator Beatriz Lostalé. It is an energetic Latin course, designed to fuel students' interest in the wider Classical world, and at the same time deliver a structured and strong understanding of the mechanics of the Latin language.
The course's new approach supports the nationwide literacy agenda and it offers a flexible range of materials which will help schools address the need for inclusive, differentiated teaching practice. Katharine Radice - Curriculum Leader for Classics at the Stephen Perse Foundation - has an established reputation as one of the country's best-selling authors of school-level Classics resources and she is a leading voice in the arena of teaching methodology for Classical subjects. Of the textbook, she says:
"Creating de Romanis has been an exciting project, and it has allowed us to draw together the different skills within the SPF Classics department in order to create a course which is truly unique in its reach and versatility."
Stephen Perse students will be using the course in trial form this year, and the two-volume textbook is due to hit the shelves in the Spring of 2020.
