We were very sorry to hear of the death of Meriol Penn, who was a pupil at the Perse Girls School in Cambridge during the Second World War years and beyond.
Her daughter, Sue, wrote to tell us that Meriol died of the frailty of old age on 5th April, aged 94 years.
Sue writes:
“The Perse School was a hugely happy and positive influence on her life. I think she was co-head girl for 6 months. She told us a story whereby while holding this august position and charged with cleaning out a vase of flowers, she, not feeling like going downstairs to empty the water down the sink, instead poured it out of the window and inadvertently onto an unsuspecting teacher’s head.”
